The residency introduces students to young From the Top musicians – Cultural Leaders - through performances. These leaders serve as peer role models when they participate in the MYORS performance. The students in the audience are inspired by the cultural leader’s dedication to his or her instrument and learn about his or her school/life/music balance. This includes how the cultural leaders make time for their studies, their social activities and their musical practice and performance.
MYORS also mentors students with professional Young Audiences artists who introduce multiple art forms to students through inter-disciplinary residency activities, including, for example, creating their own ‘rap’ music from poetry, creating comedic skits and making their own music.
